Queens 3 v 1 Reserves
Reports below

Annual General Meeting, Next Sunday!
This year’s AGM will be held at the Ferry Boat Inn, Winteringham on 4th May.

Tour to France
This year’s tour to France takes place from 23rd to 26th May.  The team and supporters will be staying at the Hotel Agriculture, and the Hotel Pilori in Pont Audemer. The games: Saturday 24th v Cormeilles; Sunday 25th v Epaignes

Final Tables
The First Team ended in sixth spot in Division One - their best performance in recent years apart from the 2004-5 season when they ended fourth. BUT, if one defeat had been turned into a draw, they’d have taken fourth spot, and if one defeat had been turned into a victory, it would have seen them 3rd!
The Reserves finished 10th in Division 4, which is their highest end-of-season finish by virtue of them playing in the highest league in their history.

Winteringham roar at Lions

Winteringham 3 - 2 Red Lion
(Half-time 1 - 1)

Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 1

by Anthony Hubbard

On a very humid Sunday afternoon Winteringham FC took on Red Lion for the second time in 7 days. The previous meeting had ended up in a 1 – 1 draw. With it being the final league game of the season neither side wanted to end the season with a defeat.

In the early stages of the 1st half Red Lion were the more dominant team, having more of the ball and looking more up for the fight. The Winteringham players started very slowly and it wasn’t until they found themselves a goal down that they started to wake up. It was end to end stuff with very little real quality from either side. After some good work down the right side, Robbie Parker crossed into the box, Sean Stevenson managed to get on the end of the cross but was unable to guide the ball goalwards. Moments later some more good work from Robbie Parker down the right led to Dave Moulds receiving the ball just inside the penalty area, he struck the ball with his right foot, it was blocked by the defender, but Dave wasted no time in pouncing on the loose ball and drove it left footed into the top corner of the goal! The remainder of the 1st half went by with very little incident.

During the half time team talk Ian Durnian fired into his players, demanding more and questioned their desire to win the game. The half time team talked seemed to have paid off as the Winteringham players performed much better in the second half. They began to dominate the play and put some good passing moves together. The pressure began to tell when Robbie Parker was brought down in the penalty area. Robbie took the penalty himself, and he calmly drove the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. The lead was no more than Winteringham deserved as they had been dictating the play, as every Winteringham player was putting in far more effort than they had in the 1st half. Winteringham continued to press after the restart, and creating some very good chances, but strikers Sean Stevenson and Robbie Parker just couldn’t find that killer touch in front of goal.

Midway through the second half it appeared two controversial refereeing decisions were going to cost Winteringham. The first was the sending off of Dave Moulds after a minor coming together with a Red Lion Defender. Then around five minutes later Red Lion were awarded a penalty, which they scored to level the game 2 – 2. After the equaliser Red Lion seemed to take it for granted they were going to go on to win the game, and left gaps in the defence which Robbie and Sean started to exploit. Winteringham were awarded a second penalty after Robbie Parker was dragged down in the box, yet again Robbie stepped up and calming struck it past the keeper.

Moments after the restart Robbie raced through on goal, but the keeper was quick off his line and managed to smother the shot. The game ended with Winteringham winning 3 -2.  It was a hard fought victory and nothing more than they deserved after a fine second half performance.

Stats ... Goals, Appearances, Men of the Matches ... for First Team

Queens Rule

Queens 3 - 1 Winteringham Reserves

Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 4

by Ian Brown

The Reserves probably got what they deserved in the relegation battle against Queens.

On a perfect day for football it was the opposition that were clearly up for the fight and sadly not us!

After an uneventful fist 25 minutes Queens took the lead when the Winteringham defence failed to clear a high ball into the box. Worse was to follow 10 minutes later when another ball was pumped into the box which the Winteringham keeper shouted for but in truth got nowhere near.

A tactical substitution at half time brought a bit more out of Winteringham but a third Queens goal saw some heads drop and with it the discipline which resulted in Martin Wilds being sent from the field off play for foul and abusive language, towards his own linesman!!

An Andy Pirie goal with 20 minutes remaining gave Winteringham hope, but although they were the better side in the second half it was too little too late.

The lack of team spirit throughout the season has undoubtedly cost the club dearly, which has resulted in relegation.

The Barton Town New Boys!

by Anthony Hubbard

On Tuesday 26th February 2008 Winteringham’s Carl Hull (Shearer) made his debut for Barton Town Old Boys against Lincoln Moorlands Railway. Carl has made several appearances for Barton Town Reserves recently and has impressed enough to get a call up to the first team. He followed up his debut appearance by starting the following Saturday when Barton Town played Teversal. Well done Carl!

Barton Town Old Boys FC was established in 1995 with the amalgamation of the two clubs in the town, Barton Town FC (the Swans) and Barton Old Boys FC. They currently play in the Northern Counties East League Division One, and in recent years have had close ties with Winteringham Football Club. Not only is current club captain Ian Durnian the assistant manger but ex Winteringham Centre back Paul Sykes plays for the 1st team and youngsters Lee Markham and Adam Sparrow have played numerous games this season for the Reserve side. This week another Winteringham youngster Dan Hubbard has been called up to the Reserve side and has been invited to join the 1st team for pre-season training.

The Newly built Barton Town Ground is located on Marsh Lane, Barton upon Humber, and is well worth a visit; the facilities would compete with most professional outfits and is regarded by most as the best in the Northern Counties League. Youth Scheme
Winteringham Football Club hold training evenings held at Winterton AstroTurf pitch.
These training sessions have proved to be a huge success. Winteringham are fully committed to the development of youth football in the local area, and believe that this provides a constructive service to the community.
Due to the sustainability constraints of providing the facilities, Wintertingham FC will have to ask players under the age of Sixteen to contribute £1 to attend each session. This will allow WFC to continue to provide excellent opportunities to young footballers whilst continuing to use high-quality equipment and facilities.

Thanks to Winteringham Parish Council
The Club would like to give a heart-felt public thank you to Winteringham Parish Council who have given a £100 grant to the football club.
