Winteringham 1 v 2 AFC Kirton Rangers (Half time: 0-1) Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 5
by Anth Hubbard
Goal: Ben Barker MOTM: Matt Graves
Winteringham Reserves took on AFC Kirton in a division 5 clash, and despite dominating the majority of the game ended up losing.
Kirton scored a goal either side of half time. The first came when the ball was over ran in midfield leaving the defence exposed. The Kirton striker coolly passed the ball into the net. Winteringham should have been out of sight by half time, but they failed to take their chances.
The second half began with Kirton again making the most of a Winteringham mistake to extend their lead. Winteringham piled forward looking to find a way back into the game, but they failed to take their chances.
Ben Barker did pull a goal back from close range late on, but he could have had a hat-trick on another day.
Kirton made the most of the opportunity that they were faced with and battled hard to hang onto the lead that came their way. They are a much improved side from earlier in the season and should be given some credit for grinding out a result when playing against a side that dominated the possession. Winteringham need to be more clinical in front of goal, this is a game they should have won, but you need to take your chances.
