Winteringham took on Bevers Joinery on a dull Sunday morning at their West Halton pitch. Some heavy over night rain had left the pitch on the soft side. Winteringham started the game well and created some good chances, but were unable to break the deadlock. It was Bevers who took the lead, from their first attack. A long ball was played into the Winteringham penalty area, the ball was cleared to the edge of the box; an on rushing Bevers attacker latched onto the loose ball and drove it into the top corner of the net. From the restart Winteringham carried on pushing forward and it wasn’t long before they were on level terms. Steve Richardson beat the left full back for pace and squared a pass to Dom Bowdler, who drove the ball past the keeper from just inside the penalty area. Winteringham took the lead moments later; it came from a free kick from the right hand edge of the area. Dom Bowdler drove the ball goalwards, a Bevers defender tried to get a block on the shot but was unable to stop it going in. Winteringham were now beginning to take control of the game and carried on creating good chances. Phil Denham hit the post and put a shot just wide. Sean Stevenson forced the keeper into a good save and Dom Bowdler had several chances to complete his hat-trick. Winteringham did manage to extend their lead just before half time. Sean Stevenson attacked down the left, crossed into the box, Luke McMahon cushioned the ball down for Phil Denham to calmly place past the keeper. Winteringham scored again within seconds of the second half being kicked off. Ben Barker played a long ball forward which was latched onto by Sean Stevenson who drove into the penalty area and slotted the ball past the keeper. Winteringham continued to press and were knocking the ball about well. Keil Leisk received the ball on the edge of the Bevers penalty area; he was no time in turning and driving the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net. Keil completed the Winteringham scoring moments later from an almost identical move. Karl Hull picked him out just inside the penalty area, Keil took a touch and blasted the ball past the keeper. Bevers got a consolation goal late on. Dave Bramhall out muscled a Bevers attacker just inside the Winteringham penalty area, the referee judged it to be a foul and a penalty was awarded. The Bevers striker calmly placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal leaving the keeper with no chance. It was a good performance by Winteringham and it was a result that extends their unbeaten run in the league to 5 games. The defence looked solid for the majority of the game, and Winteringham always looked a threat going forward. Next up: Kirton at Kirton Army Barracks (AM Kick Off).
