Winteringham 3 v 3 Bottesford Town Reserves
 (Half time: 1-2)
Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 5

by Anthony Hubbard

Goals: Mark Smith, Simon Stocks, Karl Hull (pen)
MOTM: Karl Hull

It was a clash of the Reserves at West Halton playing fields. It was Winteringham’s 3rd league game of the current season, in which they are currently unbeaten; they managed to keep that run going through a hard fought draw. Winteringham started very poorly, struggling to put a pass together and were marking mistakes all over the park. They soon found themselves two goals down and it was time to roll up their sleeves and dig out a result. Mark Smith managed to pull a goal back just before half time. Ant Prior played the ball through and Mark took his time to pick his spot before placing the ball past the keeper.

Soon after the half time interval disaster struck as Winteringham conceded a third goal, they now had a mountain to climb. Winteringham did up their game after the goal and pulled a goal back when Simon Stocks pounced onto a goal keeper error to score with his left foot. Winteringham now looked the more likely team to score, Sean Stevenson looked destined to equalize before he was brought down by a defender, the referee awarded a penalty. Captain Karl Hull stepped up and blasted the ball into the corner of the net. Winteringham were now pushing for a winner, but unfortunately were unable to take any of the half chances that came their way in the dying seconds of the game.

On reflection it was a well earned point as Winteringham played nowhere near their best, but they managed to keep their unbeaten run going. Next up its MFM Academicals in the league.
