Winteringham 2 v 1 Jolly Miller
 (Half time: 2-1)
Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 5

by Anthony Hubbard

Goals: Simon Stocks, Matthew Graves
MOTM: Matthew Graves

Winteringham Reserves took on Jolly miller in their second league game of the campaign. The game started a little scrappy and Jolly Miller took an early lead. The ball was swung in from a corner, the defence failed to clear the cross and the Jolly Miller attacker pounced on the loose ball. Soon after the restart Winteringham's Ben Barker saw red after kicking out at a Jolly Miller player. Winteringham now had a mountain to climb a man and a goal down.

Winteringham dug deep and soon equalised. John Cunningham played in Simon Stocks who smashed the ball into the top corner of the net. Despite being a man down, Winteringham were having the majority of the possession, with LUKE McMahon and John Cunningham bossing the game. John Cunningham played Simon Stocks in again, he rounded the keeper and looked certain to score, but the Jolly Miller keeper dragged him down. The referee awarded Winteringham a penalty. Dom Bowdler stepped up to take it and blasted it straight at the keeper who pushed the ball out for a corner. John Cunningham swung the corner in, Matthew Graves out jumped the Jolly Miller defender and placed the ball past the keeper to put Winteringham deservedly into the lead.

Winteringham went into the half time interval leading 2-1. After the restart Winteringham continued to dominate possession and restricted Jolly miller to very few chances. The second half passed by without any further scoring or major incidents. Winteringham showed a good spirit to come from behind and win a game after being reduced to 10 men. Every player should take credit for the victory.
