Scunthorpe Sunday League Bob Bedford Cup Rd 3
*Lincoln Castle’s home game, but played at West Halton

Winteringham Reserves took on Lincoln Castle in the 3rd round of the Bob Bedford Cup. The game has been postponed a number of times due to a water logged pitch, this led to a venue change, the game was played at West Halton.

It was definitely a game of two halves. Winteringham proved to be more than a match for Lincoln Castle in the first half and created some good chances. Lincoln Castle did have spells where they dominated possession but were unable to breach Winteringham’s resolute defence. Lincoln Castle opener came from a defensive lapse, the Winteringham player miss timed the header which allowed the Castle attacker to go clean threw on goal. He coolly lobbed the keeper. After the goal Winteringham suffered two injuries, firstly Stu Whittam and then Graham King. The half time whistle blew with Winteringham a goal down.

Winteringham started the second half brightly but the efforts of the first half soon caught up with them and Lincoln Castle took charge of the tie. Lincoln Castle's second goal was a carbon copy of the 1st. The third goal came direct from a corner. The fourth came when the Lincoln Castle player threw himself aggressively into the goal keeper, the referee felt no foul hand been committed and allowed the goal to stand.

The performance in the first half was very good with everyone 100% committed to the cause. Unfortunately Winteringham were unable to maintain the same levels of energy and commitment for the second half and Lincoln Castle came out worthy winners.
