Winteringham Goalscorers: Robbie Parker, Nathan Kerins Winteringham Man of the Match: Adam Sparrow
On a very blustery Sunday afternoon Winteringham took on Poacher in a Division one clash. Poacher under new management signed on several new players on the day and seemed up for a good tussle. It was a very scrappy game with some tasty tackles flying in, the wind didn’t help matters. Winteringham were playing into the wind in the first half, but despite this they were the more dominant team. Winteringham struggled to get into their usual rhythm and got dragged into a scrap by a very physical Poacher side. Winteringham did create several chances but were unable to finish any of them in the early stages. Dave Moulds had to leave the field of play after a firm tackle left him with a bad knee injury. He was replaced by 16 year old Connor Sturman, who was making his first appearance for Winteringham. Winteringham were to rue their missed chances when Poacher earned a corner from their first attack of the game. The Poacher player taking the corner managed to score direct from the corner, the wind did help a lot but it was still a good effort. It was Poacher's first shot on goal. After half time Winteringham started the stronger and started to pass the ball about a bit more. The Poacher keeper pulled off some fine saves. Lee Moulds blasted a shot from just inside the penalty are which the keeper parried over the bar. Young Connor Sturman had a close range effort saved by the in-form keeper. The pressure soon earned Winteringham an equaliser, the ball dropped to Robbie Parker on the edge of the penalty area, and he coolly volleyed the ball left footed up and over the keeper into the top corner of the net. Winteringham began pushing for a winner; a lot of the attacking play was coming down the right, with Lee Markham and Robbie Parker linking up well together. Winteringham did manage to find a winner when Liam Syron threaded Nathan Kerins through on goal; Kerins composed himself and simply placed the ball past the keeper into the far corner of the goal. The game ended without any further incidents of note. It was a hard fought victory for Winteringham and proved that if they need to dig in and scrap for a victory they can do. It’s important to keep the winning mentality going with some big fixtures still to come in the coming weeks. Next up it’s a local derby against Winterton Rovers, Dale Park Playing Fields 10:30 kick off.
