Queens Rule

Queens 3 - 1 Winteringham Reserves

Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 4

by Ian Brown

The Reserves probably got what they deserved in the relegation battle against Queens.

On a perfect day for football it was the opposition that were clearly up for the fight and sadly not us!

After an uneventful fist 25 minutes Queens took the lead when the Winteringham defence failed to clear a high ball into the box. Worse was to follow 10 minutes later when another ball was pumped into the box which the Winteringham keeper shouted for but in truth got nowhere near.

A tactical substitution at half time brought a bit more out of Winteringham but a third Queens goal saw some heads drop and with it the discipline which resulted in Martin Wilds being sent from the field off play for foul and abusive language, towards his own linesman!!

An Andy Pirie goal with 20 minutes remaining gave Winteringham hope, but although they were the better side in the second half it was too little too late.

The lack of team spirit throughout the season has undoubtedly cost the club dearly, which has resulted in relegation.
