Winteringham run out of juice ...
Winteringham 1 - 5 St Georges de Vievres (Half-time 0 - 2)
French Tour 2008
Great weather greeted the Winteringham players as they dismounted from their coach at St Georges de Vievre, a 20 minute drive from their Pont Audemer base. Several players were still carrying knocks from their efforts the previous day at Lieurey, and it was a vastly rearranged team that was to take to the field against St Georges, a small town which is incidentally about the same size as Winteringham.
The first fifteen minutes were again even, but with the rearranged team it came as no surprise when a goal was conceded after a quarter of an hour, and shortly after a second.
The half time team talk on the pitch saw a reversion to the line up from the previous day, and an immediate improvement was noticeable. 25 minutes into the second half saw Winteringham pull a goal back, and hopes were kindled that they could repeat the previous day’s remarkable 4-goal burst. However, the heat, and tired legs were taking their toll and with the clock winding down St Georges benefited and scored three quick goals in the last few minutes.
So, an interesting tour came to an end, with plans already in the pipeline for a bigger and more intensive tour at the end of next season. Call back for possible further details!
