Winteringham Triple against Trinity FC!

Trinity FC 0 - 3 Winteringham Reserves

Scunthorpe Sunday League Division 4

by Anthony Hubbard

Winteringham Reserves carried on their recent unbeaten run by beating Trinity 3-0! It  was a very good performance all round.  Winteringham were in control of the game from start to finish, and they managed to restrict Trinity to only two or three chances which Paul Mitchell was more than capable of dealing with. It was the first clean sheet Winteringham have recorded this season.

After a couple of half changes, some very good inter-play between Sean Stevenson and Andy Pirie, led to Andy becoming free just inside the right hand side of the penatly area. Andy wasted no time in driving the ball into the top left hand corner of the net to score a debut goal!

Winteringham, who were playing against the wind in the first half, had the best of the chances in what remained of the first half but were unable to extend their lead.

Early on in the second half, Winteringham were awarded a free kick about 30 yards from goal. After his success in the last match, Rory stepped up to take it, and he was right to do so as his fine strike led to Winteringham’s second goal. Minutes later Josh Hubbard found himself in space out on the right and delivered a pin point cross for Sean Stevenson to head home to make it 3 - 0 to Winteringham.

Winteringham continued to press but were unable to extend their lead.

This was a vital win as it moves Winteringham further away from the relegation battle and closer to mid table. They are now level on points with Trinity, but have a game in hand.

The referee awarded Luke McMahon man of the match, after he battled for the full 90 minutes in centre midfield.
